Fail... well that didn't take long.

Yes, I know I know, I said I was going to post all the time and it's been a couple days.  However, you were warned that I was CRAZY busy these few weeks so I don't really feel bad.  Quick update I guess:

So we are currently in St. Louis at NACA 2011.  I am really proud of my students that are here.  They are really getting into the planning behind it all.  On occasion I feel they are missing one or two things, but that is indeed why I am here with them.  At this point though I am pretty comfortable about leaving their side for a bit to relax a little and do this post.  They seem to be getting the drift.

We have seen a lot of amazing acts (and a couple less than stellar as well) and from what the SPAMers are interested I think their event years will be pretty entertaining and diverse.  The educational sessions have been up and down on quality, but that seems to happen every year.  Some one inevitably gets a really good presenter... and someone else gets one that is kind of useless.

The SPAMers and I took a quick trip to the arch too.  When we got there the sky could not have been better to take pictures.  We were going to head up to the top but the wair was ridiculously long and we had to get back to the conference.  Here is my favorite one of the group:

Jump guys jump!

Besides our usual craziness we met up with a group from GVSU and have had a blast with them.  We bonded over some shenanigans that went down during a morning Block Booking session.  Went out to dinner with them too, that was awesome!  It was also pretty nice to be able to hang out with another groups advisor.  Even though I'm the same age as my students, it's kind of weird to be with them and only them all day.  "Love ya, mean it!"  That's all I have so far.

Origins of the name

Okay so if you haven't figured out where the name of this this blog, ... So, there you goes!, originates from it's pretty simple and fun.  Five simple words: MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING.  If you haven't seen this movie shame on you.  Now go sit in the corner until you realize what you did.

For those of you not sitting in a corner sobbing like a little girl I hope that you are making the connection to the main character's, Toula, father, Gus, who constantly is taking words and breaking them down to their "Greek" origins.  For example:

Gus: Now, gimme a word, any word, and I'll show you how the root of that word is Greek. Okay? How about arachnophobia? Arachna, that comes from the Greek word for spider, and phobia is a phobia, is mean fear. So, fear of spider, there you go.
Schoolgirl: Okay, Mr. Portokalos. How about the word kimono?
Young Athena[whispers] Good one.
Gus Portokalos: Kimono, kimono, kimono. Ha! Of course! Kimono is come from the Greek word himona, is mean winter. So, what do you wear in the wintertime to stay warm? A robe. You see: robe, kimono. There you go!

Now I realize it's not a direct quote... but someone who hasn't posted anything since 2005 already has "sothereyougo" as a url address <insert bitterness here>.

My upcoming crazy week(s)

Alrighty so fair warning, the next couple weeks will probably be a lot of me talking about NACA, MBLGTACC, Miss Lighthouse Coast, and Miss Michigan 2011 Orientation. If you're asking "Why are you going to be talking about that"... one, slap yourself, two, I will be going to all of these events.  Let us go through what each is and what it entails:

NACA (National Association of Campus Activities) National Convention 2011
St. Louis from Feb19-23
NACA Nationals is a week(ish) long convention where planning boards from colleges and universities from all around the country get together to view and book acts for their upcoming programs.  It's a great time and it's not just a week long of concerts and performances.  Delegates from each school are required to also attend educational sessions which span in topics from "How to plan a successful events" to "Being a great leader" to "How to have a successful life in college."  The sessions are not just solely centered around planning events and activities, they are also about personal development and success after graduation.

I have already been to three NACA Nationals as a student. St. Louis in 2008, Nashville in 2009, and Boston in 2010. I am really excited for my 4th year (back in St. Louis) because I will be attending as an advisor and am now able to attend the professional sessions that will further help me out in my new future in Student Affairs.  I can't wait for this Saturday so I can take a great group of students to this awesome convention!

MBLGTACC 2011 Conference
Ann Arbor from Feb25-27
So lets begin with what that acronym actually means: Midwest Bisexual Lesbian Gay Transgender Ally College Conference. I have never been to one before so I'm not 100% what's going down.  From what I understand is it is a weekend full of speakers, workshops, and other events all centering around LGBTQ issues.  I'm excited to be going with a group of students/good friends.  I hope this turns out to be as great of an experience as NACA is!

Miss Lighthouse Coast & Miss Michigan Orientation
Muskegon from Mar4-6
Okay so no, I am not a pageant girl (although we all know I wish I was) but I do help run a local preliminary to Miss America, the Miss Lawrence Tech pageant.  With that, we must help out our winner and runner-up with their next steps.  For our winner it's the Miss Michigan pageant, and our runner-up, the Miss Lighthouse Coast pageant which is a sweeps pageant that all runner-ups from local prelim pageants have a second chance to get to compete in the Miss Michigan pageant.  The weekend starts with the Miss Lighthouse Coast show which we will be cheering on our Miss LTU runner-up, Cassandra Pizzi.  The next day is orientation for our Miss LTU 2011, Jasmine Jones, for the upcoming Miss Michigan show in June.  I'm excited because I get to go with my boss and another co-worker.  The drive is going to be hilarious, for sures!

And it begins!

Here it starts on this sunny day on the 16th of February.  So why did I decided to start this you may ask.  Well, I indeed have an answer!

As many of you (who probably already know me) know I will be leaving for Chicago in the fall to begin my new "journey" that will be Student Affairs.  In Chicago I will be attending Loyola University Chicago to attain my master of Higher Education Administration.  I am so pumped!  With this change of location (Utica/Southfield to Chicago), I figured it would be a good idea to keep all of my peeps posted with what I'm up to along with random tidbits of things I pick up on the way.

I won't be moving my butt to Chicago until July/August, so in the meantime you all get to enjoy the random that is me.  Aren't you excited!  So with that I welcome you to my blog and I hope you enjoy.
